Acreditava-se que existiam seis emoções básicas, chamadas big six: felicidade, medo, surpresa, raiva, nojo e tristeza. Porém, após um estudo realizado pelo Instituto de Neurociência e Psicologia da Universidade de Glasgow, na Escócia, ficou constatado que o medo e a surpresa, além da raiva e do nojo são sentimentos que podem ser interpretados como um só, pois movimentam-se praticamente os mesmos músculos. Assim podemos considerar que existem quatro emoções básicas: alegria, tristeza, raiva e medo.
Podemos ter a impressão de que temos mais sentimentos negativos do que positivos, entretanto todas essas emoções são importantes, pois quando sentimos algo, tendemos a agir. Também, na verdade, sempre teremos os dois lados, bons e ruins, dessas emoções. Por exemplo, se fôssemos sempre felizes poderíamos nos acomodar, ou se não temêssemos nada, nos atiraríamos de uma janela.
A questão que importa é vivermos em equilíbrio e sabermos lidar com cada uma delas. Podemos sentir raiva, o problema é sair batendo ou gritando com todo mundo. Precisamos e é permitido sentir medo, o que não é saudável é viver em pânico, com medo de tudo, deixando que esse sentimento lhe paralise.
E qual a relação das emoções com o nosso corpo?
A definição de emoção vem do latim movere, mover mais afastar-se, ou seja, em qualquer emoção está implícita uma propensão a agir, e com a evolução das tecnologias, analisando o cérebro e todos os sinais vitais, percebeu-se que o organismo respondia fisiologicamente a esses sentimentos. Agora vamos entender cada uma delas:
- Raiva: gera impulso para ação. Aumento do fluxo sanguíneo para as mãos, tornando mais fácil sacar uma arma ou golpear o inimigo; aumento dos batimentos cardíacos e da excreção de hormônios como a adrenalina, causando energia suficientemente forte para uma atuação vigorosa.
- Tristeza: estimula o aprendizado. Uma das principais funções da tristeza é lidar com uma grande perda, como a morte de alguém ou uma decepção significativa. Esta acarreta uma perda de energia e de entusiasmo pelas atividades da vida, em particular por diversões e prazeres, podendo reduzir a velocidade metabólica do corpo quando é muito profunda, como nos casos de depressão. É possível que essa perda de energia tenha como objetivo manter os seres humanos, que estariam vulneráveis em estado de tristeza, perto de casa, onde estariam em maior segurança.
- Medo: proteção. O sangue é deslocado para os músculos do esqueleto, facilitando a fuga; o rosto fica pálido, já que o sangue lhe é subtraído. Ao mesmo tempo, o corpo pode paralisar, para ao invés de fugir, você se esconder. São disparados hormônios que põem o corpo em alerta geral, tornando-o inquieto e pronto para agir.
- Alegria: Recuperação e energia. A sensação de felicidade/alegria causa uma das principais alterações biológicas, ativando o centro cerebral e inibindo sentimentos negativos, favorecendo a elevação da energia existente, silenciando aqueles que geram pensamentos de preocupação. Fisiologicamente não há mudanças significativas, porém, existe uma sensação de tranquilidade, que faz com que o corpo se recupere rapidamente do estímulo causado por emoções perturbadoras. Essa configuração promove um total relaxamento, assim como propiciar disposição e entusiasmo para a execução de qualquer tarefa ou meta.
Assim, pessoas que estejam vibrando muito na raiva, estarão evocando movimentos de potência e velocidade, prontas para agir, partir pra frente, o que é bom, porém em demasiado pode ocasionar decisões precipitadas, estar sempre em estado de alerta e não conseguirem relaxar.
Pessoas vivendo muito no medo, podem se encontrar paralisadas, com receio da mudança e se acomodarem, mesmo sem estarem satisfeitas com sua vida.
Aqueles mergulhados na tristeza, são pessoas mais cabisbaixas, curvadas, sem disposição e ânimo para realizar algo.
